Summary of original article by Daniel Bland / Business News Americas
Brazil's government has approved 61mn reais
(US$33mn) from its 2010 federal budget to expand Viracopos airport in
São Paulo state's Campinas city, the official 2014 World Cup website
reported in a release.
"Due to overcrowding at neighboring airports, Viracopos is in
dire need of improvements," Rubel Thomas, director of international
freight terminal TEAD Brasil, told BNamericas.
"Airlines are slowly being redirected to Viracopos and I expect
the trend to continue," Thomas said, adding: "The recent redirecting of
the airline TAP Portugal is an example of this trend."
The resources will finance the start of airport's expansion master plan which involves a 6bn-real investment.
