Brazilian cooperation with Cape Verde makes it possible to carry out entirely digital population census

Brazil is helping Cape Verde to
prepare its population census, the first one to be entirely electronic,
to be carried out this year, the chairman of Brazil’s Geographical and
Statistics Institute (IBGE) said Friday in Brasilia.
“This is not expensive cooperation for Brazil and is extremely
valuable for Cape Verde,” Eduardo Pereira Nunes told Portuguese news
agency Lusa, noting that the initiative could be extended to other
Portuguese-speaking African countries.
The agreement between the IBGE and the Cape Verdean National Statistics
Institute (INE) includes transferring methodological and technological
knowledge in the preparation and carrying out of the census.
It also includes a loan of handheld computers and training for the 110
census takers that will gather data on the archipelago’s population.
